What this calculator works out

This is useful when pricing work, checking a supplier total or showing VAT separately on a document.

Calculation: VAT added = net × rate. VAT included = gross × rate ÷ (100 + rate).

Practical example

With a 20% rate, 1,250 net becomes 1,500 gross. A 1,250 VAT-inclusive amount contains 208.33 VAT and 1,041.67 net.

Use the result carefully

  • Confirm the applicable VAT rate and treatment with the relevant authority.
  • Zero-rated and exempt supplies are not the same and may be reported differently.
  • Rounding can differ by line item versus invoice total.
